What is private billing?
Operating as a private business, GPs are free to determine reasonable fees that are reflective of the services they provide. If you are privately or directly billed, you are paying the GP’s fee in full. You will then receive the relevant patient rebate (if eligible) from Medicare for the service you received, subsidising part of the fee you were charged. The Medicare rebate may not cover the total cost of the health service. The Australian Medical Association (AMA) fee structure forms the basis of our billing policy and Dr Emma charges the fees that reflect the time taken and degree of complexity in each consultation.
After-hours and Emergencies
If the matter is an emergency please call Queensland Ambulance on 000.
Please do not delay calling an ambulance or attend at the practice in case of a medical emergency as a hospital emergency department is the most appropriate place for treatment.
Can the doctor refuse to see a patient?
Dr Emma is an independent private general practitioner and as such can choose to consult or not consult with a patient at her sole discretion. On occasion a therapeutic relationship may break down and it may not be in the best interest of both the patient and doctor to continue that relationship to achieve best health outcomes.
Who can I speak to if I have a practice issue to discuss?
Please note that Dr Emma is currently practising as an independent contractor at Cooloola Coast General Practice. The practice has its own management, policies and procedures and Dr Emma kindly encourages patients to clarify any specific practice issues with management.
